Reports to the Safety Manager. Areas of responsibility include: developing and maintaining technical skills to serve as a consultant to divisions and staff departments; analyzing, identifying and defining safety issues; assisting in evaluating risks associated with the mining and milling of construction materials, hot mix asphalt mixing, and ready mix concrete operations; assisting in developing, recommending and implementing procedures, best safety practices, accident prevention methods, and management systems to prevent loss; developing inspection and audit checklists; preparing technical reports and giving technical presentations; developing safety training programs; participating in accident investigations and root cause analyses; compiling and disseminating accident prevention information; participating in safety and industrial hygiene studies; and maintaining a database of injury and safety information
Tasks:
Reports to the Safety Manager. Education:
University/Graduate
Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Safety.
Two to five year’s safety or related experience required.
Open pit mining experience a plus.
Should have a working knowledge of quarry operations, MSHA and OSHA general industry and construction and DOT regulations.
Construction safety experience and knowledge of best safety practices for construction, maintenance, and repair work or completion of OSHA 510 and 500 is a plus.
Must have good organization skills, ability to handle multiple assignments, to scan, understand and translate regulations to others.
Excellent writing and analytical skills are required.
Position will require knowledge of safety hazards, preventive measures, ergonomics, industrial health and industrial hygiene sampling methods.
Must have good computer skills and the ability to become proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel software.
Must be a self-starter with initiative, strong interpersonal skills, excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate with all employees.
Certification as an MSHA instructor is a plus.
Position requires travel - 25% or more.
The ideal candidate will be willing to relocate to a division safety and health position in two to three years to gain increased field experience and to develop the skills necessary to handle increasing levels of responsibility in safety and health.
